Physiotherapy – Self Referral for Bromley patients

If you are aged 18 years or older and have back, neck, joint or general muscle problems you can self-refer to physiotherapy without the need for a GP appointment.

You can still see your GP to be referred, but self-referral aims to give you rapid access direct (via physioDirect) to a physiotherapy telephone assessment.

The physiotherapist can assess you over the phone to understand your needs and expectations and assist in providing advice and guidance about your condition. This will include agreeing on appropriate next step in your care. This may be self-management, an exercise class, face-to-face physiotherapy, or an onward referral to hospital.

If you feel you would benefit from this service, all you have to do is call 01689 88 77 10. The phone lines are open Monday to Friday from 8am-4pm.  Outside of these times you will be able to leave a voicemail and they will return your call as soon as they can.

When you call, a member of the team will register you on their system. It would be helpful if you could have your NHS number to hand.

We also have a First Contact physiotherapist based at London Lane Clinic. First contact physiotherapists (FCPs) are specialist physiotherapists with extensive expertise in the clinical assessment, diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions.

Patients with MSK conditions can bypass the appointment with a GP, and go straight to get help with a specialist physiotherapist. Instead of the traditional method where you are seen by a GP then referred for a physio appointment which can take up to 6 weeks or more, you can book an appointment directly with a physiotherapist via the receptionist, which means you won’t need to wait for a referral from a doctor.
